Familiar with the properties, which typify the name of The Edinburgh Address, I was happy to accept an invite to one of their most recent additions; The Mansion @ The Meadows.
Vastly varying in style, era and architecture, each of the homes in their portfolio offer a certain standard, which guarantees clients shall never be disappointed. And I wasn’t.
As the name suggests, all their managed properties are located in Scotland’s capital; this particular one, on a quiet, leafy road between Bruntsfield and Morningside and on the fringes of one of Edinburgh’s most popular green spaces; the Meadows.
If you aren’t already impressed by the postcode, arriving at the aptly named Mansion shall not fail to put a smile on the face of even the hardest to please in your party. A vast Victorian villa, the Mansion has massive kerb appeal, with a stereotypical double frontage, set back from the road behind a manicured hedge and mature trees. A driveway for around 5 cars ensures off-road parking for everyone and a secluded stay.
Everything about this property is larger than life….starting with the impressive front door and entrance hallway which opens up to the wood-panelled hallway and sweeping staircase. Any preconceptions of a dark property were quickly dispelled, moving from room to yet lighter room, each one large, light and very beautiful.
There is an obvious focus on interior design where time has been spent decorating and furnishing the mansion to the highest possible standards and in a very unique way.
Moving from one reception room, to the next and the next; space is the dominant and very obvious attraction, followed rather unusually for a property of this grandiose size; warmth. High ceilings and large open rooms usually indicate a level of chill but not here…this home is perfectly heated, adding to the luxurious and rather indulgent feel, arriving at the Mansion.
Feeling somewhat like Alice in Wonderland, I discovered more and more rooms, forgetting how to return to the front door on several occasions and ended up in the kitchen. This enormous, more modern room also acts as an informal dining area with seating for 10 and looks out over the grassed back garden, complete with swings, climbing area and basketball net. There is also a summer house and plenty of secluded space to relax, play and enjoy.
The kitchen is packed with state of the art appliances and gadgets and I would challenge anyone to find something that wasn’t included in this fabulously impressive space. Mood lighting completes the space for the evening and should you wish for something more formal then there another two dining options within a dedicated dining room at the front of the house or the formal sitting room.
A family lounge also looks onto the garden and a children’s playroom (with TV) means that the younger family members can enjoy their own space too.
A further two levels above house 6 bedrooms and with a total of 3 bathrooms, even larger groups or big families can be very comfortable here for an extended break. A suite of rooms on the landing comprises a bedroom and a bathroom with feature star lighting – one of my favourite bits! A library and study complete this section of the house – fabulous for added privacy and a secluded spot to work or read. The additional rooms are all off the very bright top floor landing; each offering unique interior styling and refreshingly, probably not what would be typically expected of a Victorian property, although sympathetic to the era.
The Mansion is a real find in one of Edinburgh’s most desired residential areas. Restaurants, bars and shops are all within easy walking distance, and what a joy being so central, yet not needing to worry about parking!
The Penhaligon toiletries are a joy and the pillows and mattress, probably THE most comfortable ever (and I am fussy!).
To summarise, all I can say about The Mansion @ The Meadows is WOW!
