You could be mistaken for thinking that Poppies is merely a small garden nursery, and with a fairly well hidden entrance which is easy to miss, you could also be mistaken for thinking that it would be a fairly quiet, little place. Not so, Poppies is absolutely delightful and very well patronised – obviously by people who are already aware of its existence or just happened to stumble upon it, as I did.
There is a well stocked nursery with a selection of plants, shrubs and accompanying additions and also a unique little gift shop, selling untypical items and attracting healthy custom but there is also a wonderfully friendly coffee shop with a very tempting selection of home baking , local seafood and daily soups.
We chose to sit out on the deck with views across the water of the Firth of Lorne and the marina to the 12th century Dunstaffnage Castle. With a wonderful vista and freshly ground coffee on hand, coupled with extremely personable staff, Poppies turned out to be quite a find.
