With a website advertising “a morning or afternoon out”, I was a little surprised upon checking my watch to discover that over 4 hours had passed since I had barely raised my head last!
Smarty Art is a charming little ceramic craft workshop in the Morayshire town of Grantown-on-Spey; a colourful dot on an ancient canvas and a hive of artistic creativity.
A wonderfully friendly welcome where expert guidance is dished out freely and informally by the encouraging and informative Gill Sunde; ceramic artist and owner of Smarty Art.
Choose your pottery piece, take a seat and let your imagination and creativity run wild….genuinely there is something for everyone to transform into their very own ceramic treasure to take home. It would be easy to mistake Smarty Art for a childrens’ painting party however this unique little gem offers something for every gender, age and ability – our party of four spanned 3 generations of blatantly varying artistic skills!
The entire process succeeded in capturing our concentration and determination to turn our own piece of pottery into a personal work of art; and so, following many industriously well occupied hours, several drinks; hot and cold; and a snack, we left the experience and our works to be fired in a kiln and collected before our departure a few days later.
Collection of the finished articles was also an exciting event; seeing our treasured works immortalised; an enduring memory and a splendid memento of a lovely day.
